Benefits of Fleet Vehicle Wraps
for Chicago Businesses

Quick AnswerFleet vehicle wraps are advertising a Chicago business pays for once. Vehicle wraps create repeated local exposure wherever your fleet drives and parks. Daily exposure varies by route rather than following one universal industry number. A wrap is a one-time cost that keeps working for 5 to 7 years and generally qualifies as a deductible business advertising expense. Chicago Fleet Wraps has wrapped 19,400+ vehicles since 2001.
The Math

Why a Wrap Out-Earns Every Other Ad You Buy

A wrapped vehicle is a billboard that drives to the customer, creating repeated local exposure wherever your fleet drives and parks. Daily exposure varies by route rather than any universal industry number. The cost per exposure keeps falling the longer the wrap works, because the cost never recurs.

Run the wrap versus billboard comparison. A full cargo van wrap is a one-time $4,200. A single highway billboard in Chicago charges rent every month and stays in one spot. Your van is in front of customers on the Kennedy, in the Jewel parking lot, and parked at the job site, every day, for years.

Longevity

One Cost. Five to Seven Years of Work.

Chicago Fleet Wraps installs cast vinyl only, Avery Dennison MPI 1105 and 3M IJ180-CV3. A properly installed cast wrap lasts 5 to 7 years on a commercial vehicle in Chicago conditions. Spread the one-time cost across that lifespan and a full van wrap works out to roughly $2 a day. No other form of advertising keeps running for half a decade after you pay for it.

Wraps Are a Deductible Advertising Expense

A vehicle wrap is advertising, and the tax treatment follows from that. Vehicle wraps are generally deductible as a business advertising expense (IRS Pub 535 / IRC 162). That turns a $4,200 van wrap into a smaller after-tax number. Ask your tax professional about your situation.

Every Vehicle Becomes the Same Billboard

A wrapped fleet builds recognition through repetition. When every van, truck, and trailer carries the identical color, logo, and phone number, a homeowner who sees your HVAC van in Logan Square on Monday recognizes it in Avondale on Thursday. That repeated exposure is what turns a passing impression into a saved phone number. Consistency across the fleet is the multiplier, and it is the one thing a billboard can never do.

How a Fleet Wrap Program Gets Built

A fleet wrap is not ten separate jobs. Our two in-house designers build one layout per body style, so a Transit, a Sprinter and a 16 ft box truck each get designed once, and then every individual vehicle gets its own cut file off that layout. Graphics print in-house on two HP Latex 560 printers and an Epson SureColor R5070, up to 59 inches wide, and laminate on SEAL equipment. Nothing goes out to a trade printer, which is why one reprint two years later does not sit in somebody else's queue.

Installs get staggered so the fleet keeps earning while the program runs. The Portage Park shop holds five installation bays across roughly 6,000 square feet and takes many commercial vehicles up to about 40 feet long indoors, with secure indoor overnight storage. Figure 1 to 2 business days on the bay for a cargo van, 2 to 3 for a Sprinter, 2 to 4 for a box truck. We pick up and deliver free across Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will and McHenry counties, so a dispatcher hands over keys instead of losing a driver for the day.

For a larger or mixed fleet we can survey the vehicles at your own yard first: confirm models and body configurations, photograph the existing units, and write down the variations that never make it onto a spreadsheet. A 2019 Transit and a 2024 Transit are not the same shell. Catching that before production is the difference between a clean rollout and a panel that does not fit. Itemized pricing follows within 24 hours once the vehicle list and the artwork are in hand.

Volume

What Adding Vehicles Does to the Price

The discount runs on vehicle count across one contract, and it starts earlier than most shops will tell you. On a $4,200 cargo van the ladder runs 2 to 4 vans 3% off, 5 to 9 vans $3,906 each, 10 to 24 vans $3,738 each, 25+ vans $3,570 each. Two vehicles already qualifies.

Because the count is per contract and not per calendar year, how you book the work matters. A company that wraps six vans in November and four more in March sits in the 5 to 9 tier twice at 7% off. Putting all ten on one contract with staggered install dates puts the whole order in the 10 to 24 tier at 11% off, with the same cash flow. Mixed bodies count the same way: two box trucks and six vans is eight vehicles on the ladder, not two smaller orders.

Sequencing

Which Vehicles Should Get Wrapped First?

Most owners assume the highest-mileage unit should go first. Parked time usually beats drive time. A plumbing van sitting in a Beverly driveway for three hours gets read; the same van at highway speed gets a glance. Start with whatever spends its day stopped in the neighborhoods you want more work in.

  • Newest paint first. Cast vinyl needs sound factory paint. A freshly repainted panel has to finish out-gassing before film goes on it, and a clear coat that is already failing can come away with the wrap years later.
  • Longest-held units first. Expected service life is 5 to 7 years, so a one-time cost returns the most on a van that will still be on the road at the end of it. A unit you plan to cycle out next spring returns the least.
  • Body work before film. Dents, rusted rockers and a cracked bumper cover get sorted first. Vinyl follows the surface under it and telegraphs every flaw rather than hiding one.
  • One spec per body style. Same film, same layout, same placement on every Transit you run. When a door gets hit two years in, the fix is a reprint off the saved file instead of a redesign.
  • Hold back two units. Wrap the rest, run them for a month, then wrap the last two with whatever you learned about placement from the calls you actually got.
End of Life

What the Wrap Is Worth When It Comes Off

A wrap is removable, and that is part of what you are buying. Cast film comes off in panels with heat, and the paint underneath has spent those years shielded from sun and road grit instead of fading in a yard. Chicago Fleet Wraps holds zero verified paint damage claims across 19,400+ vehicles wrapped. Removal is quoted separately at 40% of the wrap price, and a fleet that turns vehicles over on a cycle usually books it alongside the replacement unit's install so one trip covers both.

The benefit owners underrate most: a matched fleet is a hiring signal. Installers, drivers and techs read a set of clean, identical trucks as a company that is organized and paying on time. Precision Today HVAC has 16 vehicles wrapped with us and the program is still growing, and each new unit that joins it looks like it belonged there from the first day.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How many impressions does a vehicle wrap get?

Nobody can give you an honest universal number, because exposure is a function of your route. A van parked on a residential block for three hours gets read; the same van at highway speed gets a glance. For a fleet the number that matters is repetition. If your trucks work the same few neighborhoods every week, the same residents pass the same van over and over, and that is what turns into a saved phone number instead of a passing look. Ask us to work it against your real routes rather than an industry average.
