NV vs Transit vs Sprinter: Design Surface Comparison
The Nissan NV’s boxy, upright body design produces a generous side panel area with minimal feature-line intrusion. The standard-roof NV side panel is comparable to the Transit 130 standard-roof. The high-roof NV is approximately 3 inches taller than the Transit 148 high-roof, producing more vertical advertising surface.
The NV’s front design includes a large, flat hood and a prominent grille that are atypical among cargo vans. CFW designs NV wraps with the full front face in mind — the hood and front quarters accept wrap vinyl with standard painted-metal adhesion protocols, producing a distinctive full-wrap appearance that covers the NV’s boxy front face.
“The NV is underrated as a wrap canvas. The boxy shape people sometimes criticize is exactly what makes it great for graphics — big flat panels, minimal design compromises, readable graphics. Our NV fleet installs consistently come out cleaner than equivalent Transit installs because there’s less to work around.”

NV Body Prep Before Anything Gets Printed
An NV comes to 4711 N Lamon Ave #7 for a measure and a condition check before the artwork is locked. The hood is what sets the schedule. It is wide, flat and close to horizontal, so it holds standing water and wash chemicals longer than a sloped hood does, and it is the panel most likely to arrive with clearcoat already lifting. If the clear is on its way off, we say so and leave the hood out of the wrap rather than bond film to a surface that is failing.
The curb side door on the cargo NV is hinged rather than sliding, so the seam line down that flank does not mirror the driver side. Templates are cut per side. The rear doors swing wide as a pair, and both get their jambs wrapped in so an open door reads as color and not factory white. A high roof NV adds a tall upper band to each side panel, which is more material and a second set of hands on the squeegee, not a harder install.
Grille, badges, mirrors, handles and marker lamps are pulled anywhere the artwork runs across them, and the painted metal gets degreased and then wiped with isopropyl alcohol. Adhesion promoter runs along the hood edge and around the grille opening, where film has the least mechanical grip and the most airflow working against it. Old cut lettering leaves adhesive that has to come off completely, because MPI 1105 shows every ridge left underneath it.
What the Price Covers, and What a Fleet Pays
A full wrap on an NV cargo van is $4,200. That figure covers design time with our two designers, printing on HP Latex in the shop, 3M 8518 gloss overlaminate over the print, and installation by our own crew. No subcontractor touches the van. Free pickup and drop off covers Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will and McHenry counties.
| Vans on one contract | Volume discount | Per van |
|---|---|---|
| 2 to 4 vans | 3% | $4,074 |
| 5 to 9 vans | 7% | $3,906 |
| 10 to 24 vans | 11% | $3,738 |
| 25 or more vans | 15% | $3,570 |
Tiers apply per contract and are not cumulative across the year, so it pays to put a whole replacement batch on one order rather than sending in two vans a quarter. Print files stay on record either way, and a van bought later gets the same layout without a second design round.
The NV200 Is Not a Small NV
The NV200 compact cargo van shares a badge with the full size NV and very little else. It is a front wheel drive compact with a much shorter and lower side panel, a different glass arrangement, and sliding side doors in place of the full size van’s hinged door. It wraps cleanly, and the flat lower body is a tidy canvas for a service company working tight city blocks where a full size van cannot park. It gets measured and quoted on its own body rather than off the full size NV table above, so ask for the NV200 by name on the phone and the quote comes back built on the right van.
Keeping an NV Wrap Through a Chicago Winter
Hand wash from the roof down with mild car soap and a soft mitt. Stay out of the brush style automatic washes, because the bristles chew printed edges and the NV has a lot of edge: two rear doors, a hinged side door, and a hood seam across the front. Keep a pressure washer away from any cut edge and never aim hot water into a seam. Salt sits on the rocker and the lower rear doors from December into March, so rinse it off on the warmer days instead of leaving it there all season.
Park out of standing sun where the lot allows. The roof and the top of a high roof NV side panel take more UV than anything else on the van, and that is usually where a wrap starts to look tired first. If an edge does lift, call the shop at (312) 597-1286 while it is still small. An edge caught early is a quick post heat on the spot. The same edge left for a season pulls dirt under the film and becomes a reprinted panel. Workmanship is covered for 2 years and the material warranty on the film runs 5 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Nissan NV wrap cost in Chicago?
A Nissan NV1500 standard-roof wrap at CFW falls in the $3,250 to $4,200 cargo van range. The NV2500 and NV3500, standard or high roof, are priced in the same range. A full wrap on any NV cargo van is $4,200. Artwork, the cast film and the installation are all covered by that number.
Is the Nissan NV worth wrapping if it’s discontinued?
Yes. The Nissan NV was discontinued after the 2021 model year, but hundreds of thousands of NVs remain in active commercial fleet service across the US. A Nissan NV wrap at CFW costs $3,250 to $4,200 and has a 5 to 7 year service life, and the vehicle’s production status does not affect the wrap’s advertising value or its deduction as a business advertising expense. Ask your tax professional about your situation.
How does the Nissan NV high roof compare to the Transit high roof for wrapping?
The Nissan NV high-roof models have a distinctive tall, boxy roofline that creates a larger high-roof side panel than the Transit 148 high-roof. The NV high-roof side panel is approximately 3 inches taller than the Transit equivalent, producing slightly more vertical design surface. Installation time is comparable.
Does the Nissan NV have any wrap-specific installation challenges?
The Nissan NV has a front-hinged passenger door on the standard-roof model (versus sliding on most competitors) that creates a different door seam pattern on the driver-side panel. CFW accounts for this in template design. The NV’s large, flat hood also requires special attention to adhesion promoter application on the painted metal surface.
How long does a Nissan NV wrap last?
Expect 5 to 7 years in Chicago conditions on MPI 1105 cast film under 3M 8518 overlaminate. On a high roof NV the roof and the upper side band take the most sun, so that is where the wrap shows its age first. A van that gets hand washed and parks under cover holds up better than one that lives outdoors and goes through brush washes.

“People write the NV off because it is boxy. Boxy is free advertising space. The hood is the only panel on it that asks for any real thought.”
